Juan Bufill


Since 1975 Juan Bufill has mainly dedicated himself to poetry although to date only a small part of his extensive work has been published. He has published in various art reveiws (previously on cinema and music) and other facets such as avantgarde television (the programme “Arsenal”, 1985–87), comic strip writing and photography can be considered as expressions of his poetry through other mediums.

Video and Television


  • Created the avant garde program Arsenal together with Manuel Huerga and screenwriter Jordi Beltran. More than 40 programs produced for TV3 during the period of 1985-1987. Souvenir, Crits, Nico-Garrel, Terra de les Danses and Cap a l'origin etc.
  • Screenwriter together with Elena Posa for TV3 Estoc de pop during which more than 70 programs were produced during the period of 1983-1985. Some of programs dedicated to artists such as John Cale, Nick Cave, Eyeless in Gaza to name a few.
  •  Director and screenwriter of The voyage by Robert Wyatt (Arsenal,TV3 1987) and Bu√±uel (1989-90) in collaboration with M.Huerga
  • Arsenal was awarded Ciutat de Barcelona in 1986. Bu√±uel received the first prize together with Robert Wilson at the Bienal del Patrimonio Cultural Europeo in 1990.

Experimental Cinema


  • During 1976 and 1979 author of films such as Frontera, Caramelo (naturaleza muerta), Green, Arena and Para√≠so which were selected in the XVI Bienal de Sao Paulo 1981, in Cin√©ma d'avant-garde in Spain as well as Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris 1982.
  • Co-founder of the group FVI (Film Video Information) in 1977 together with Eugeni Bonet, Eug√®nia Balcells and Manuel Huerga.
  • Of the numeros films produced from 1987 to 2007 most recently has edited in video both Signaturas (sintesis) 2006 as well as Traveling-Light 2008
  • One of the most represented in the Spanish experimental cinema retrospective "Del √©xtasis al arrebato" a itinerante program that was shown from 2009 to 2011 in centers such as: The Tate Modern in London, The National Gallery in Washington, The MNCARS (Reina Sofia) in Madrid, CCCB in Barcelona as well as Anthology Film Archives in New York.
